Good, Better, Best' Method: A Guide to T-Shirt Selection
Printwear.io | Good, Better, Best T-Shirts

"Good, Better, Best" is a common method in offering customers a range of choices based on quality, features, and price points. Printwear uses this rating method across more than 25k products to make it easy to find the ideal fit. It allows us to cater to different segments of customers' needs with varying preferences and budgets.

We’ve been garment decorators for more than 30 years and have found that customers’ needs differ based on the problem being solved. For example, a t-shirt for an employee as part of a new onboarding is completely different than a freebie given away at an annual trade show. Saying that, it’s important to think through your promotional strategy and include longevity and usage as a key criteria. After all, we want users to “want” to wear or use our promotional product frequently.

Let’s unpack the "Good, Better, Best" method of choice:

Good: This tier represents an entry-level or basic option. Good-quality t-shirts are typically made from standard materials such as cotton or a cotton-polyester blend. They may have simpler design, fewer features, and basic construction. Good t-shirts are often priced at the lower end of the spectrum, making them affordable for budget-conscious customers. They are suitable for everyday wear or casual occasions. Think tubular construction vs. side-seamed. Or perhaps a lower singles count.

A higher singles count equates to a finer fabric, that is often softer, smoother, and lighter in weight. A lower singles count means a coarser and often heavier fabric. A premium t-shirt is often made from 30 singles of yarn, while a standard, heavier tee might be made from 18 singles.

Examples of “Good” t-shirts are:

  • Port & Company Core Tee (PC54)
  • Gildan Heavy Cotton T-Shirt (5000)
  • Gildan Softstyle T-Shirt (64000)

Better: The better tier offers improved quality and features compared to the basic option. Better-quality t-shirts may be made from higher-grade materials such as organic cotton or a finer woven fabric and higher singles count. They often come with additional features such as reinforced stitching, better color retention, or unique designs. Better t-shirts tend to be more durable, comfortable, and stylish than the basic options. While they are priced higher than basic t-shirts, they still offer good value for customers looking for improved quality without breaking the bank.

Examples of “Better” t-shirts are:

  • Gildan 100% Ringspun Cotton T-Shirt  (980)
  • Hanes Beefy-T T-Shirt (5180)
  • Port & Company Ring Spun Cotton Tee (PC150)

Best: The best tier represents the premium option with the highest quality and features. Best-quality t-shirts are made from top-of-the-line materials such as high-quality organic cotton, bamboo fabric, or performance blends. They are constructed with meticulous attention to detail, offering superior comfort, durability, and performance. Best t-shirts often come with advanced features such as moisture-wicking properties, UV protection, or antimicrobial treatments. They may also feature premium designs, prints, or embellishments. While best t-shirts come with a higher price tag compared to basic and better options, they provide unmatched quality and luxury for customers who prioritize excellence and are willing to invest in premium products.

Examples of “Best” cotton t-shirts are:

  • AS Colour Staple T-Shirt  (5001)
  • BELLA+CANVAS Unisex Jersey Tee (3001)
  • Allmade Unisex Organic Cotton Tee (AL2100)
